1947 Hudson gets new engine

Image
It has been a long process to get the engine rebuilt for the Hudson. We delivered the engine to Phoenix on July 9, 2013 and 3 months later, October 3rd, picked it up. It took a long time to have the parts made for the rebuild.     I brought it home and started to assemble all the bolt on parts, the first was the distributor. To get #1 cylinder on top dead center I rotated the engine several times but could not feel any compression.  I tried the other cylinders using a compression gauge tester with little or no compression. I called Bailey's machine and he had me do a leak down test using compressed air that resulted in the air leaking past the pistons, the valves seemed OK. After another call we determined it would be best to return it to Bailey's so they could check it out. So October 7th, I made the trip to Phoenix (300 mile round trip).  They had the same results as I did and decided to bore it 30 over and install new pistons and rings. There was a delay wait

GOOD GUYS SCOTTSDALE

November 14 thru 18 we took "Karens Kaiser" to the Good Guys Scottsdale show arriving a day early, Thursday, to set the camper up, pick our entry package up and visit with some friends.  It was a little cloudy and cool on Friday morning but warmed up during the day. Then that afternoon we drove over to Hot Rods by Dean for the TGIF BBQ.  Our camper was in G lot that is close to the show area and a easy walk back and forth.  This late 40's Oldsmobile has a modern Lincoln Mark II engine, transmission, running gear and electrical system.  46 Mercury with a super charged 351 Ford engine is not yet completed but very nicely done.  Lot's of cars and trucks for sale including this 1960 Edsel hard top that is similar to the Ford Starliner.  Highly modified Buick with hydraulic operated hood, doors, top, rumble seat and ride height that is home built.  Karen enjoyed the weather on Saturday where we were set up in the Builders Choice area.

CAR SHOWS LAUGHLIN NV & FORT MOHAVE AZ

September we went to the Riverside Resort in Laughlin NV. for the River Cruzers car show with the 60 Ford Starliner.  The weather was a little windy but very nice over all and we stayed at the RV park across the street from the car show.  Some very nice and unusual cars were there.  Nice paint job.  Restored / street rod Buick  Then October 3 we took the Kaiser to the Mohave County Sheriff's K-9 show where all the proceeds go to support the K-9 unit.  Over 150 cars showed up for the show and to support the Sheriff.  The show is held at the Fort Mohave Market Place that the owners donate the space each year. The chopped truck belongs to the owners.  The Sheriff's deputies put on K-9 demonstrations during the show.  Very nice 1936 Plymouth 4 door street rod.  Supper nice weather and Karen won the store owners pick award with her Kaiser.

After all the parts and pieces that would fit into the blast cabinet were cleaned and painted the sway bar and drive shaft were left and had to be sand blasted with the larger unit outside the shop.  The original 292 CI engine and transmission were set into the chassis to make sure I had the correct drive shaft and that all the linkage, brake & fuel lines fit. New rubber brake lines, wheel cylinders, brake shoes, wheel seals and shocks were installed. The u - joints were taken apart cleaned, checked and greased then the drive line was installed along with the front sway bar with new rubber mounts. I was able to salvage most of the brake & fuel lines but had to make new lines for the rear end and front fuel line. The body was put on the rotisserie, moved outside then cleaned and washed. The body and chassis were in two (2) different bays and were moved out for the body to be put on the chassis. Bottom of the body was primed where the floor pans were replac
