Good Guys Scottsdale AZ

Image
We took the Starliner to the Good guys Scottsdale Southwest Nationals again this year. We left home on Thursday morning went about 40 miles and stopped just outside of Wikieup and found the cable that connects the trailer to the truck had fallen down and been dragging on the ground, which severed the wires. I did not have any splicing equipment with me so I patch it up by twisting the wires together and taping them up. This took about an hour as we discovered that it had blown out the fuse in the truck and of course I did not know where the fuse panels were, and we had no spare fuses. I made up a jumper to the blown fuse and we were finally back on the road. Then about 30 miles out of Wickenberg we head a loud pop and the left rear tire on the the trailer came apart. We were at a place on the 2 lane highway that we could not pull over and had to drive on the flat about a 1/2 mile during that time the tread came off beating on the side of the trailer. The place we pulled off was not wid

S.E.M.A. show 2010

Arrived in Boulder City NV early Wednesday morning to meet up with a friend who had tickets the the S.E.M.A. show and I went with him as a guest for that day. I had my own ticket for Thursday and Friday as an opinion Leader (program S.E.M.A. where they ask individuals to review and comment on new products presented at the show) to S.E.M.A. show (runs Monday through Friday that the Las Vegas Convention Center). Wednesday, we parked at the MGM Grand Hotel and got lost trying to find the free shuttle, finally took the monorail to the convention center (HUGE). We spent 6 hours and only covered a third f the manufacturers displays, walked about 10 miles and it was very crowded. Thursday, I got there early, (7:30 a.m.) and was able to cover a lot more area with less people there, take some good pictures of the huge variety of cars that were there, all manufacturers were on display along with race cars, hot rods, custom cars, vintage cars, there was a lot to see and I walked another 8 miles.

Bye Bye Suicide Doors

We had a set back on the 53 Kaiser project that is now at Hot Rods by Dean in Phoenix for final body work fit and paint. The car was ready for paint when we got a call from Dean for a meeting with him. At the meeting he told us of his concerns regarding the suicide doors that they would not support the door, glass, and upholstery which would cause them to sag. They could not open correctly and hit the outside lower trim if both doors were opened simultaneously. They hit each other and would damage the paint. After much discussion, Karen made the decision to go back to stock doors. I called Larry Barker (The Kaiser Guru of Phoenix) and made arrangements to pick up 2 stock rear doors and 2 "B" pillars from him then took them to Dean. When I got home I cut the latch side of door jams out of the parts car (with Latches in tack) 4 door hinges, sandblasted all the parts and took them to Dean. The car had to be rescheduled back to the metal shop where Ron (the metal fabricator) brac

1947 Hudson

Image
Our most recent addition to our automotive family is an all original 1947 Hudson Super Six 4 door. It has been in a garage in Southern California for the past 22 years and driven occasionally so is in mostly running condition. It came with new steel belted radial tires, new brakes including wheel and master cylinders. The original sales slip for 1947 that shows a 1941 Chevy traded in for the Hudson was included in the sale. The gas tank has been flushed and the radiator and heater core is now at the radiator shop to be refurbished (the radiator required a new core). I have installed new fuel and water hoses, fuel filter, battery cables and ordered an electronic ignition for the distributor as the hold down screw is stripped that keeps the points in adjustment. Once all that is done we will be driving our new baby.
