New Engine is In

Image
New Engine is in but............. we have an oil leak and a water leak. Have to pull the intake manifold. Still trying to make the May 5-6 deadline for Route 66 Fun Run. The 1 -16" pusher fan won't cool the engine have to add fans. Looked at Spal Fans but theirs is too thick at 4" deep. Will try to use the flex-a-lite 2 5/8" low profile fan Or I might buy 2 12" 2 1/4" deep fans.

The Story of the 51 Ford

Image
My first car was a 1950 Ford Custom 2 Door Sedan that was Pea Green. My Uncle helped me buy it in Los Angeles in 1956 where I had dual pipe with glass pack mufflers put on and the front coil springs cut to drop the front before I drove it back to the San Francisco Bay Area. I joined a Hot Rod club and got interested in drag racing and in 1957 I installed a 1957 DeSoto fire dome V8 Hemi engine with four Stromberg 97 2 Barrel carb on a home made log manifold, a roller tappet cam, a cadallic LaSalle transmission and an Olds rear end. The car turned in the high 90's/ low 100's and ran in B gas. Eventually, the car was sold in 1961 after marriage, children, and trying to save for a house. In 1994, (43 years later) I had a 1985 Ford Mustang Gt and started attending weekend Rod runs, poker runs and went to the Goodguy's show in Pleaston Ca. where I saw some nice 50's and 51 Fords. So, I bought over the next year 2 1950 2 door sedans, 1 -55 club coup w/no engine or transmissio

The 390 is still at the machine shop

In the meantime I brought the wrecked T-Bird home, left it on the trailer and removed the center console, drive line tunnel and rear seat area of the floor pans then took it to the auto selvedge yard.

ROAD TRIP FOR RON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ron took the re-built FE engine to LA along with the 1966 T-Bird block for evaluation. Got a phone call from John (see blog link on side bar)saying that the block was questionalbe so ROAD TRIP to Northern California for another 390 FE Motor. Meanwhile, Ron Decided the 1966 T-Brid he brought home to cut up was in too good of condition. So, while in Northern California he is picking up another 1966 wrecked T-Bird to cut up for the drive line tunnel for the Kaiser. Next week or so Ron is going to start the story of the 1951 Ford four door he has been working on for 13 years. Busy scanning older picture before digital cameras to post to blog.
