Custom Built Bumper for the 4105

Image
The existing bumper looked out of place at the back of the 41 Cadillac and I decided to modified it to fit in close to the back between the rear fenders. (The picture below is the finished reshaped bumper.) The stock bumper was set in place and as you can see dose not fit the back of the car. It was marked for center and where the first cuts will be made. This is a cut and fit as you go to get the look that I want.  Once the ends were cut off it could be slid under the gravel pan and scribed for the curve of the back of the car.  The top part of the bumper was cut off and I got part of the curve but still not enough.  7 cuts were made on top & bottom so it could be bent into the curve shape.  I bent a 1"X 1" square tube to match the curve of the gravel pan then clamped it to the bumper as it was pulled and bent to match then welded the top first as it was bent into place. The bottom was bent as necessary, clamped at each cut then welded.  All the w

Build an Exaust system

One of my goals in this 4105 project was to use as many of the 2 parts car parts on the 41 Cadillac without buying new parts. I have most of the exhaust systems from the 05 & 07 along with some other left over parts from other projects, including 2 mufflers, to use for this system. The 05 exhaust (below) was removed as a complete assembly.  There two of all the 2" exhaust parts except the tail pipes and mufflers.  The 05 pipes were held in place as a complete assembly to see where the 41 frame would interfere with it, cut apart for 3 pieces - head pipes, resonator & 2 rear pipes. The head pipes were bolted to the catalytic converters and I chose to use the 05 that has heat shields one both at the transmission the 07 only had one.  The resonator / collector would not fit in the stock location and had to be moved back behind the X member of the 41 frame.  I wanted to keep it away from the U-joint and sinter carrier bearing and was moved to where there enough ro

GET THE 1941 RUNNING

Image
Last post I started to install the permanent parts in the 41 Cadillac and have continued to get it running before I start on the body. I started to incorporate an 2007 Cadillac STS into the 41 but as the project progressed the 07 was to badly burned in the rear to be able to use all the parts. I found a 2005 STS salvage car that had been rear ended with rear sheet metal damage but all the rest of the car was in running order. Now I have put all the 2005 parts into the 41. I think that I will call it the 4105.  The car will not run without gas so the first thing was to install a fuel filler. I removed the fuel door from the 04 and the filler tube & hose from the 05. The filler hose & tube fit from the tank to just above the 41 frame where it was cut and attached to an aftermarket filler hose that extended it into the trunk. I had a piece of 1 1/8 OD pipe that extended it to a 90 degree bent hose and up to the stock filler / gas cap fitting. The filler gas cap assembly wa
