68 Mustang #13 fix transmission

Last post the transmission would not shift into any gear except 3rd & 4th gear and I decided to take it out to see what is wrong. The drive shaft, exhaust pipes and e-brake cable were removed to make it easier for me to drop the transmission.

The 5 pictures below came in reversed where #5 should be the one below, so bear with me and I will explain what had to be done.

This one shows the floor jack on the rolling steel tool cart with an adapter and extension pipe to reach the transmission, rachet straps were used to hold up the trans. while the pipe extension was changed for shorter ones this was done twice to get it down to top of cart.
This is the rebuild kit for my 1978 Sears floor jack with the exploded view of the pump assembly.
Jack with tolls and parts before rebuilding.
Disassembled jack parts. The reason the jack is being rebuilt is it would not stay in the jacked-up position (worn out pump parts) and I do not have enough muscle any more to safely lift the transmission out, so the jack was needed.
Above are the cart, jack and parts needed to extend the home-made transmission saddle that was made for a previous project.

I was able to get the trans. out without damage to it or myself, and it still looked in good condition, but you never know until you look inside.
Inside all the gears and other parts looked in very good condition.

Below the tail shaft housing, shifter forks and shifter parts all looked ok with nothing obvious wrong.

The only thing that I could find was the bushing that I had bought did not seat all the way into the shifter socket on top of the tail housing. After I measured the bushing and socket the bushing had to be turned down in the lath a couple of thousands to fit. After reassembling the transmission shifter so all this was not necessary but at least I know the transmission is in pretty good condition with little wear.
During the installation of the transmission the rear mount was sagging when installed. You can see the rubber has broken away from the mount. This was an expensive part, over $40.00, and poorly made. A new one has been ordered so I'm waiting for parts to arrive again. I will update blog when I get the car back together again.
