50 Ford Project

Started work on the 50 Ford 2 Dr. project car to get it running by taking the body apart again and  repaired the rusted areas of the bottom of both front fenders.

The left front inner finder was repaired where the battery was located and the shelf lengthened to move the battery closer to the fire wall and clear of the power steering pump.

To complete the engine wiring I had to purchase the injector & oxygen sensor harness (from E-Bay) that plug into the main harness that I already had, then the three (3) harnesses had to be reconfigured as they are for a Mustang 5.0 where the throttle body is on the right and the manifold I have is from a Crown Victoria with the air intake on the left side.

The left over wire and connectors from the 2 Ron Frances wiring kits (51 Ford & 53 Kaiser) gave me enough to wire the 50. I made my own fuse & terminal panel from a 12 circuit fuse block from E-Bay and left over terminal strips.

The existing dash wiring was in good condition and needed only minor repairs and the 51 steering column I'm using has a built in turn signal in it that I repaired and lengthened the wire to reach the terminal strip.

I did not have the proper sending units for the oil pressure, water temp. or amp gauges so I bought a mechanical gauge set for under the dash. The neutral safety switch was wired in from the transmission and a stop light switch added to the back of the master cylinder.

To get the engine complete the revised Mustang headers were painted with 1500 degree paint then baked at 350 degree in the BBQ for a 1/2 hour to cure the coating.

All of the front pulleys, plates, brackets and components were bead blasted or cleaned then painted with hi-gloss black paint with the aluminum parts in natural finish. A 2" fan spacer and new water pump was purchased to complete the front of the engine.

New wire was added to the front of the car for head lights, parking / turn lights & horn and to the back for the new fuel pump, gas gauge sending unit, stop / turn & running lights.
Next the exhaust, whees & tires, get the breaks operational and mount the radiator.
