Starliner on Fun Run

Saturday morning we left the house and drove the Starliner 45 miles east on I-40 to Seligman AZ, arriving at 9:00 a.m.

and lined up with the other cars along the main street getting ready for the 10:00 a.m. start of the Fun Run.

Famous landmark "ROADKILL CAFE"

Angel waving us off on the start (If you watched "Cars" the movie and watched the interviews at the end you will see Angel).

From Seligman we went west on Historical Route 66 stopping at the Grand Canyon Caverns where Ron went on the 1 hour tour while Karen read a book and looked after the car (she is a mite bit claustrophobic). The tour was very good, you walk about 3/4 of a mile up and down stairs and inclines temp. was 56 degrees. Lots of exercise and very interesting.

From the caverns we continued west thru Peach Springs, a Hualapai Indian Reservation, where they set up food, and goods, arts and native dances. Then on thru Truxton and Valentine (Where Keeper of the Wild are located).

We had planned on stopping at Hackberry General Store (build around 1926) but as usual it was crowded with no good place to park the Starliner with its 3"of ground clearance, so on thru Valla Vista and to Kingman.

Old town Kingman with 2 main streets are closed off for the Run Run Cars only along with street vendors for food and merchendise. All the businesses are open also for visitors. There is lots of activities, music, cars to look and and the Show and Shine.

We left Kingman around 5 p.m. and got home at 6 pm we had traveled 220 miles the first day.

Sunday, we drove to Kingman and continued west on Route 66 pst Cool Springs, a 1926 restored Mobile Station, and onto Oatman. That is a former goldmining town that dates back to 1902 where burros roam the streets looking for handouts. There is old west gunfights int he streets and most of the shops and hotel were built in the 1920

On the way into Oatman we passed some gold mines that have been re-opened then got stuck in a line of traffic in the middle of main street while the gunfight was acted out.

But again this year, as in the previous 2 years there was no good parking for the Starliner so we took a few pictures and drove on to Golden Shores.

A Few Burros

Finish line in Golden Shores. There is food, beverages, A DJ Playing 50's and 60's music, raffels, 50/50 drawing the Golden Shore library selling books, and a bake sale.

Finally the awards for the cars were presented. The Starliner won the Best Custom Award and we were thrilled as there were over 800 cars on the run.

It was another 200 miles on Sunday so the Starliner had a good run and we had a great time.
