Last post I started to install the permanent parts in the 41 Cadillac and have continued to get it running before I start on the body. I started to incorporate an 2007 Cadillac STS into the 41 but as the project progressed the 07 was to badly burned in the rear to be able to use all the parts. I found a 2005 STS salvage car that had been rear ended with rear sheet metal damage but all the rest of the car was in running order. Now I have put all the 2005 parts into the 41. I think that I will call it the 4105.  The car will not run without gas so the first thing was to install a fuel filler. I removed the fuel door from the 04 and the filler tube & hose from the 05. The filler hose & tube fit from the tank to just above the 41 frame where it was cut and attached to an aftermarket filler hose that extended it into the trunk. I had a piece of 1 1/8 OD pipe that extended it to a 90 degree bent hose and up to the stock filler / gas cap fitting. The filler gas cap assembl...

I had decided to use the 05 trunk latch assembly as it has an electric & manual opener and the 05 wiring harness is set up for it. The bottom latch looked as though it would fit in the pocket where the 41 was and the upper part of the latch had to mounted to the trunk lid where the existing trunk handle/latch and license plate were mounted. Rather than build a plate assembly for it I thought a frenched in license plate box would give me a smooth mounting surface on the back of it and clean up all the holes in the trunk lid.  This idea came from "Full Custom Garage" Ian Roussel work on one of his custom builds.  These two pictures show the 05 latch with the manual pull cable attached to the lower latch and the pocket where the 41 latch catch was mounted.  A hole was cut in the bottom of the pocket to fit the lower latch and to see where the upper latch had to be mounted.  I found a frenched in license plate box on Amazon that was the least expensive and ...

The last post the prep work on the frame and body was complete enough to start installing the permanent parts from the 05 donor car. The lower part of the fire wall and inner fenders still needed to be painted and I taped of the engine compartment then painted it with POR 15 Gloss Black. The anti-lock brake valve had been moved forward to clear the radiator and engine and the brake lines had to be extended to the new location by cutting the lines then make extension lines. The cut lines had to be flared in place that required some jury rigging as my double flare tool is large and designed to be used in a vice outside the car. With the 2005 Cadillac STS still on the hoist the engine and front suspension is removed in preparation for the permanent parts to go into the 41. The hood and front clip was removed then all the cooling, brake , A/C lines disconnected and cable harnesses , where necessary disconnected.  I put my body dolly, that I had built, to fit the front subframe, engine and transmission of the 05 then lowered the car so the subframe sat on the dolly, took the 6 bolts out of the subframe and the 10 bolt's from the top of the struts and lifted the body up using the hoist.  As you can see the engine / suspension assembly comes out as a complete package including all the wiring harness and lines. Although it was very heavy it moved very easily on the large wheels of the dolly across the shop to under the chain hoist where the engine / transmission was separated from the subframe / suspension.  The large components were moved outside, sprayed with degreaser and Simple Green,...
