1964 1/2 Mustang Project (For Sale Project Car)
I found a 1964 1\2 Mustang for sale on Craigslist at a reasonable price and decided to go to Lake Havasu to take a look. It turned out to be complete and in good condition, with no rust, for a good restoration car. The VN showed that it was made on April 14 1964 and is #13,223 made out of 92,705 made. This one came with a 3 speed manual transmission but somewhere along its life it got changed out for a automatic, the clutch peddle is still in the car.
The hood received some damage during it's move from L. A. area to Lake Havasu
Do not know why some parts ars in prime but it has no rust that I have found.
The car had been stored for several years and was not running. The interior is in good condition and the body is fairly straight with some damage to the hood and a poorly done repair job on the right rear fender. The two rear quarter windows would not roll up so I took them apart and replaced the rollers that had broken in the window regulators.
The engine would fire up when gas was pored in the carburetor so I knew it would run. The gas tank smelled like old dried up gas and the fuel line was pugged up. I had some left over gas tank cleaner that was put in the tank and I filled the fuel line with carburetor cleaner and let it sit overnight. The next day I flushed out the tank, blew out the fuel line (that took several tries) and changed the fuel filters, with all that done the engine started and ran.
The original 170 CI 6 cylinder engine in the car has good compression @ 90, 165, 110, 185, 160 & 180. there no water leaks and one transmission leak in the hose that connected the transmission cooling line to the radiator.
The brake peddle was on the floorboard so I took all 4 wheels and break drums off and found the rear brakes about half worn and the front badly worn.
All 4 wheels have self adjusters on them and the right front had over adjusted itself and worn the brake shoe down to metal and scored the drum badly and I decided to replace all 4 brake assembly's.
Above and below is the rebuilt right front brake with a new drum on the floor.
This is all the new parts including shoes, wheel cylinders, master cylinder and new grease seals.
The Mustang will now start, stop 9with new brakes) and will move forward and reverse. I will take it on a test run when the weather gets better.
If anyone is interested in this project Mustang contact me at austinpeakrd@gmail.com as I am not going to restore this car. Asking 7,200.00 or best offer.
