50 Ford Test Drive

50 Ford Test Drive

The 1950 Ford 2 door went for its first test drive on Monday 8/5/13 after a year and a half of working on it.

To get it on the road new rear wheels had to be purchased as the stock wheels would not fit over the disc break calipers so I pulled a wheel off the Kaiser, that has the same rear break set up, and the wheel cleared the brakes but had the wrong back spacing. After taking a few measurements I was able to find the "smoothie" 15" wheels by Wheels Vinitiques from Summit Racing.
Next the exhaust system had to be installed and I selected the 2 1/4" do-it yourself exhaust kit for rodders from Summit along with a pair of there mufflers and SS tips.
To make small bends I made a pipe bender out of my hi press with blocks of wood and a left over round mandrel.
The kit had enough bends to make any configuration I needed like this offset to get around the power break unit.
Then a straight piece to extend back to the muffler.

I used my pipe vice to hold and rotate the exhaust pipes for welding.

The head pipes had been previously made with the oxygen sensor bungs in them when the car was first started and the 2 1/4" pipe fit inside the 2 1/2" with a 45 degree bend.

2-45 and 1-90 degree bends where used to get over the rear axle.

There was not much space for the tail pipes at the gas tank and spare tire well but I fit them in with a inch on each side then welded the hangers that come with the kit to complete the job.

I had measured and ordered the drive shaft from AZ Drive Line in Kingman two weeks earlier that was the last item needed to make the car go down the road.

The car is all together with everything working and the test drive went very good it starts, runs, stops and drives very nicely.

I have spent 900 man hours and $14,700. in parts and the car is currently listed on Craigs List for an asking price of $12,000. so I can move on to my other projects. If any one is interested you can reach me at (928) 530-9939.
