Get the 50 Ford Running

Once the DIY gas petal was installed and the throttle cable I had a stock kick down cable from a Mustang that fit the throttle body but had to be adapted to the AOD transmission (rather than a C-4) so with a little mounting bracket & kick down lever modification it worked fine.  The inner finders and radiator U bracket were sand blasted and painted then installed with the radiator bolted in place I used left over chrome pipes to connect to the engine. I bought new 3/8 steel tubing and fabricated the transmission to radiator cooling lines using a hand bender for the fit along side the oil pan. Battery was moved back toward the fire wall to clear the power steering pump and hold down brackets made. I used battery cables that were left over from a previous project.  The starter solenoid , horn relay, barometric sensor and voltage regulator were mounted and wired. While checking out the wiring I discovered that the 1950 starter button went to ground (-) when ...

DIY Gas Pedal

Image
I decided to keep the 50 Ford a DIY project by making my own throttle pedal. Its hard to see but the finished pedal turned out pretty good. I have a Lokar pedal in the 51 Ford so I had a model to go by. I started by making a cardboard template from the 51 pedal and had a leftover Lokar throttle cable to use. I cut the upper and lower arms out of 1/8 mild steel on my band saw then welded a 1" pipe with a 1/2 " hole in it to the top arm. A 1/2" rod with a gruve cut in it (for the C clip) on the leigth was welded to the bottom arm.   A pivot block was cut out of 3/4 aluminum with a 1/2" hole drilled in it and a spacer/mounting plate cut from 3/8" aluminum with 2 - 3/8" holes to except the pivot block mounting studs. The gas pedal was made from 1/4 alum. plate 1/4X2 alum. angle that was bolted to the pedal.   The upper arm 1" pipe boss was drilled and taped for a set screw that would hold the assembly to gather and could be ad...

The first two days were very windy but it setteled down on Satruday.  Karen and Charlie enjoyed the breeze off the river and the grass parking.  Lots of nice cars showed up for the 3 day show.  1954 Kaiser  1959 Edsel  It was about a 1/2 mile walk each way from the RV park to the show so I used our scootr to get back and forth.   They have a very nice swim beach & lagoon but the water was still a little cold to swim. Sunday morning we went to the awards presentation then loaded up and was home by noon.
